Sculpture

American Academy of  Fine Arts provides basic sculpting skill class for K-5 students at Medina Elementary school. Sculpture, a 3D art, lives in the world with us, sharing space in our 3D experience. In its very essence, sculpture provides a physical platform for the expression of our ideas and thoughts. It has marked our history, recording our evolving humanity with form, shape, and material. We offer step-by-step instruction with emphasis of modeling, especially how the material we use, our approach and tacit assumptions, our individual point of view, and the progressive observation from more than one angle that occur during the process of work. Student artists will be introduced to the principles of sculpture and techniques for construction. We will look at a wide variety of sculpture both for reference and inspiration. Students will then flex their new perspective to create their own masterpiece.

Coding by Coding with Kids: (beginner to intermediate level)

Do you play games and wonder how they are created? Would you like to build your own computer programs? Come learn how at the Coding with Kids Academy! In this fun after-school class, you will be introduced to the core concepts of computer programming, including loops, conditionals and variables. Using the Scratch development environment, you will learn how to create your own programs, such as simple games, animations, and interactive stories. With new projects each session, you will be able to express your creativity and advance as a coder! Our progressive curriculum will allow more advanced students to move to the intermediate level after just 1-2 sessions. In the intermediate level, students will build on their current knowledge and move on to more advanced concepts, such as nested conditionals and functions, which will allow them to build more involved projects in Scratch, such as cool multi-level mazes or platformer games! Art By Early Masters:

Early Masters is a Seattle-based art school for kids, and we are delighted to be coming to Medina Elementary this fall as part of the after-school enrichment program.

Children will learn about artist’s lives, their visions, and techniques through an engaging and hands-on program. Founder Shelley Thomas crafts each workshop specifically to students and balances theoretical exploration with hands on painting practice. All children paint on canvas with high quality paints and brushes.

Children feel empowered when armed with knowledge that is typically perceived to be reserved for adults. They develop confidence in communicating as they are encouraged to discuss the content of the art work. Demystifying artists’ lives and learning about their ideas and unique contributions to art gives children a sense of pride and accomplishment. For more information about Early Masters, please visit www.earlymasters.com

Here's an interview to learn more about Shelley and her classes.
