Medina STEM Night will be an exciting night full of fun and hands-on learning with STEM related activities for all ages. We welcome the entire Medina Elementary community to join us for exploration, discover and entertainment!

 

Parent Volunteer Signups

STEM night won’t succeed without parents’ help!!! Please kindly take a moment to look over the volunteering positions and signup to ensure a successful event for our kids.

  • We tried to split the volunteering hours so that each volunteer only helps about one hour and still has another hour to enjoy the STEM activities.
  • Two persons will be sponsored to get food sale license.
  • We provide volunteer positions for high school students.

Students' Science Projects

5:30 pm – 7:00 pm


Do you want to showcase your STEM projects and practice presentation skills? Welcome to participate students’ science projects presentation, and share your research on a STEM related topic, or results of your experiment. Please follow Science Project Guide and Resources for more detailed project guidance and resources.

There will be popular vote for favorite projects of each grade and the winners will be announced at 7pm at STEM Night. All participants will receive a recognition award and a special surprise.Submit registration slip on April 17th to front office

  • Submit registration slip on April 17th to front office
  • Use tri-fold board to demonstrate your project.
  • Include your name, grade, teacher and room # on the back of the tri-fold board.
  • Submit your tri-fold board on Monday, April 22 to front office.
  • You can work on your project by yourself or with up to 2 partners.
  • Please prepare for a 2-3 minutes presentation to explain about your project.

 

Egg Drop Challenge 

Time: 5:30 pm – 7:00pm

Place: First Grade Balcony

The challenge is to create a container that will protect an egg from cracking or breaking from a high fall. You can make this as simple or complex as you want! All participants will receive a recognition award!

Procedure

  • Sign up between April 17th -19th in school hallway
  • Make container at home and place the egg inside. Label with your name, grade, teacher and room #
    • Bring sealed, egg landing device to school April 24th morning, Put it in the box at front desk.
  • Launch at first grade balcony stem night 5:30pm -7:00pm by grades.
  • After you drop it look and see if your egg cracked or remained intact. A cracked egg is defined as one that is visibly leaking its contents. (Remember to wash your hands after touching raw egg!)

We will provide Tapes, Backup eggs and sanitizer

 

Yes Materials:

  • Plastics, Cardboard, Newspaper, Old boxes, Paper, Tape, Glue, Rubber bands, Popsicle sticks, Toothpicks, Baggies, Straws, Feathers, Cotton balls

 

NO Materials:

  • Parachute, Helium balloons, Bubble wrap, Styrofoam, Splatterables like peanut butter, liquids, fruits or vegi

 

Featured STEM Programs and Demonstrations

Come and learn everything from space, to planets, to flying contraptions, to virtual reality and robotics, to salmon migration and more! Below are several exciting demos you don't want to miss:

This interactive, astronomical workshop propels you out into the starry universe to ponder the planets, make sense of the seasons and explore the extraterrestrial.

Families and individuals over 5 years old build whirligig helicopters and see them fly in the wind table.

Using our portable wind tunnels, families and individuals over 6 years old can design and test different flying contraptions using basic household materials. Participants can investigate how changing design and materials can affect the flight of an object.

                             

 

 

Food Stand

There will be pizza and bottled water available for purchase at the event starting at 5:30pm. No need to cook. Just enjoy and relax :)
